Generative AI often gives polished, accurate-looking histories of science – but what kinds of stories does it default to? For the 2026 Society for the Social Studies of Science conference in Toronto, I examine how five GenAI systems narrate scientific progress in my paper: “Episode III, Revenge of the Whigs: Discursive Residues in Scientific Explanations of GenAI.”
